Power Steering Fluid - change every two years or 60,000 km

Although some of cars don’t have enough engine space, which will switch to electrically assisted steering wheel, but it is still a small number. Most of the vehicles use a hydraulic auxiliary, the so-called power steering fluid (PSF). PSF mainly provide internal hydraulic power steering, and allow drivers turn the steering wheel more easily. The power steering function must be formed only when oil hydraulic environment works.

Once the oil quality deteriorate, the assist force becomes smaller and when under long time driving condition, the steering wheel will be heavier. The rubber tubing and seal life will be relatively shorter, so make sure the power steering oil quality is good enough or not, is also an important work to maintain traffic safety. In this regard, it is recommended to change oil every two years or every 60,000 kilometers. That will be able to ensure power steering oil is clean enough.

Power steering fluid (PSF) will be dressed in the oiler, but in different car models, the location is different. If you want to check the oil level or add in the oil, please be careful and do not add it in the wrong place.

Usually there will be some direction marked in English or illustrated on PSF bottle. If not so sure about it, you can read the owner's manual, where detail instructions listed inside.

In addition, some PSF pipe in old car will begin to leak. If the leakage rate is not too high, there is no need to replace tubing. Meanwhile the PSF level needs to be regularly checked when engine is operating. Just add in PSF if level is too low. Moreover, here we provide a tip to maintain the power steering long life: when people parking in downtown, will turn the steering wheel left and right repeatedly and until its end with large angle. At the time, you can put a little bit back to the position. It will reduce oil pressure inside the seal. Also with a slower speed, you may reduce the burden of steering wheel and extend its life.

Checking level oil for PSF, sometimes it needs to open the cover to see oil level, some can be determined from outer appearance. Part of the vehicles have two different points for high and low level position. So people should be very careful on checking the oil level.
